The Rissa Family Is Climbing

We have all been climbing recently. Mika started this summer with alpine climbing, then on autumn purchased equipment to Cami and trained her the technique by indoor climbing wall. Ciara does not need any climbing equipment or training, because she is a basenji (the cat in a dog suit). Here is two videos of Ciara's activity in English Garden near by our home: Video 1 and Video 2.

Aittakankaan A-Basenjis Made History of DLA-tests

Genoscoper Finland published the results of first ever DLA-tested two basenjis in Nordic countries. We are proud to announce, that one of the results was made of Aittakankaan A-basenji. The result is: DRB 00901 - DQA 00101 - DQB 008011.
The aim of DLA diversity test is to maintain the heterozygosity of the MHC region as much as possible in the breeding lines. This should reduce the risk for autoimmune or other diseases.

Summer holidays

We have been enjoying summer holidays by hiking about 20 km per day on the mountains (Austrian Alps and Italian Dolomites). Both Ciara and Mika are in excellent shape. Cami needs to lose weight which had found her body during her visit in Finland.

Today Nala turned officially to Veteran Class at the age of eight (8). Nala is still enjoying her retirement in Finland. She is celebrating her birthday in the summer cottage (about 100 km west from Espoo).

Cami turned 40

Today is the official birthday of Camilla, but she celebrated the birthday in advace. First with Mika by the trip to Australia (photo hereby) via Bangkok from 31.12. to 18.1. This journey was a birthday present from Mika. Then on 12th February some friends visited "Simbala" in Espoo with the theme of 40 crisis and obsequies of the past (the guests wore black outfits like in funerals). Even if one gets older, the sense of humor is still flowering It is nice to get old together!

Back to Munich Home

Everything was in place, when we arrived from our holidays in Finland. Only our garden needed some extra care taking. We have become so familiar that people in Munich restaurants and English Garden greet us warmly: "Welcome back! Nice to see you, again!" Just realized that we have taken very few photos from Munich. There are many beautiful places in the city, but we never carry a camera with us ( a camera would make us look like the tourists).

Weekend in Tallinn

Mika took a wreck diving safari in Tallinn Bay while Camilla met friends in a dog show. The Thai-massage was a new experience to Camilla, otherwise family Rissa visited the regular places (Kadriorg, Pirita and Downtown).

Ciara track racing training in Finland

Ciara took a 280 meters practice run and met Reko (Ciara's puppy) at Tuomarinkartano race track in Helsinki. Last week we tested new method of taking video of running basenjis (Uni, Ciara, Bea and Pinja) at the track in Hyvinkää: a Gopro HD camera in a 720p 60 fps mode was attached to a lure holder!

An important feature of the midsummer in Finland is the white night and the midnight sun. Because of Finland's location spanning around the Arctic Circle the nights near the midsummer day are short or non-existent. This gives a great contrast to the darkness of the winter time. The Germans does not celebrate Midsummer, so family Rissa made a compromise solution: Mika went south by motorbike and his Finnish friend living in Germany without any celebration and Cami went north by car to visit her Finnish friend living in Germany and celebrated the Midsummer with Finnish flag and other rituals adopted to German environment: bonfire replaced with grill etc.

Weekend in South Tyrol Alps

We spent a weekend in South Tyrol Alps as follows: first Tiefenbrunner wineyards in Cortaccia, then Lake Garda (where a funny-hat-dog was having "siesta" on a motorbike and we had to take this photo of him) and then at the end the Alta Badia -round.

The First Of May

The first of May is a popular festival time in Finland and Sweden. Originally it is the labor day, later on student day, but nowadays it is the opening of spring time for everybody. It is the similar carneval time like the "Fasching" in South-Germany a couple of months earlier. Best wishes for the First of May!

Ciara's Puppies Two Months Old

Ciara's puppies have started to leave the nest. We are very proud of them all: Aittakankaan Ardebil "Khufu" (male), A. Abade "Reko" (m.), A. Arabesk Akwaba "Rosa" (female), A. Afshar Farlanders "Mia" (f.) and A. Abrash "Rita" (f.). Four of them will live in Finland and one in Estonia. Hopefully we will keep on contact with all of them!

Most precious friends are those whom you can trust. When Cami had to visit Munich on weekend, our friends Kerli and Maire from Estonia came to take care of the puppies; both of them have extensive experience of dogs. Ciara and her puppies were in a good hands. THANK YOU!

Basenji Ciara's Litter Was Born

January in Finland

It has been very cold (-15 Celsius or more) in Southern Finland and snow about half meters. Actually now it is very typical weather of January. The good side of this cold weather is that there are ice over the sea, so one is able to walk over the ice quite safely (like Simba in the photo). Simba-corgi turned 9 years old on 3rd January, Ciara increases waistline (expecting lot of puppies) and Nala is leading the gang.

Long Weekend in Alta Badia

We continued the skiing season in the snow proof Dolomiti Ski area with more than 1200 slopes between altitudes 1500-3269 meters. This time we had company of our Finnish friends Mirja, Jukka, Pertti and Leena. We made excursion of the famous Sella Ronda (the ski circuit) for both directions. Last evening we found "The" Apres-Ski place called L'Murin near by our hotel.

Mika also loaded some videos by car of Passo Gardena: the west side and the east side.
